Stratton-Ridge Lesson Horses
Good horses are developed in years, not trained in months. Our lesson horses are trusted partners, carefully developed with the specific skills required to teach riding in a safe and fun way
Apache

21 years old
Paint Quarter Pony
13.2 HH
Apache is the perfect horse for your child's riding lesson! He understands his job well and has been the #1 barn favorite at SREC for 10 years. He's also the resident pick for "paint the pony day" and "portrait day" at the farm.
Teddy

14 years old
Off the track Thoroughbred
17 HH
Teddy has been at SREC for 10 years and started off as a personal horse for our owner/trainer. Recently, he has started doing lessons for students who are moving up off of Apache. He has experience in Dressage, Jumping and Cross country. His size and strength make him a good mount for someone with alot of confidence. He is super sweet and loves being the center of attention.
Jelly Bean

20 years old
Bay Quarter Horse
14.2 HH
Jelly has been described as the "muscle car" at SRE. He is strong, strong and well strong! He can jump the moon but also has an awesome turn and stop. He is the best horse ever to learn canter and requires at least an intermediate rider because he has lots of buttons. He is the sweetest and the best boy to do gymnastics. He is also an excape artist and knows how to work the latches to the place where we keep treats.
Lola

24 years old
Bay Thoroughbred
14.3 HH
Lola has officially retired She is still a much loved member of our team and will continue to help with herd management and photo shoots! She spent many years playing polo at Texas A&M, and several years here teaching kids all the things:) As the leader of our mare herd, she helps to teach the young and new horses the rules at Stratton-Ridge. Her gentle temperament, and experience make her a great horse to help riders learn all the ground care.
Rohan

10 years old
Dark Bay Thoroughbred
16.2 HH
"Ro" is a very classy and well bred ex-racehorse, who is the youngest of our mare herd. She is well known for her sweet nature and teenage antics. Stratton-Ridge was fortunate enough to do all of her "second career" training. Her size and strength, as well as her relative immaturity, make her an advanced mount for riders wanting to be competitive in Dressage or Jumping.
Annie

21 years old
Black Fresian/Belgian cross
18 HH
Annie went over the rainbow bridge in 2024. She was one of the sweetest and gentlest of horses ever to run the pastures at Stratton-ridge. She was very loved, and is greatly missed.
